Positive: cute hamlet & authentic 300 year old house. in nature. great walks just a few steps from the house. quiet. Books in the house explain a lot of the history of these mountains, which we found fascinating. (They survived by making charcoal. The woodcutters lived in the thick forests and cut the trees & prepared them for making charcoal-a product that weighs less than wood & produces twice the heat, a must for the Iron Age. We were amazed by the process described & the tough lives these people led. (There’s a museum in Borgo Pace.) If you do some hikes, you’ll see the piles of sticks getting ready for the long several day process. Really beautiful area with genuinely kind and caring people like the hosts, especially Giovanna & her mother & father. The family went out of their way to do so much for us! Homemade cookies when we arrived and many other great touches. Nice authentic villages like Borgo Pace and Mercatello, just up the road. Other hamlets with walks. This is not an area with anything commercial. Shop at the local market in Mercatello—a bustling beehive of activity on a Saturday morning. Walk up to the square on a Saturday morning in Mercatello. That’s market day. This is a wonderful, scenic area with real people. Friendly ones, too!

Negative: authentic house with not enough natural light which means small windows. But, these homes are cooler in summer and warmer in winter because of the thick stone walls & small windows. if the weather had been better we could’ve enjoyed the outside. it was rainy & cold. Next time, the sun will shine.
